Tonight I have an exam in Fluid Mechanics. Sounds pretty simple right? Well, it should be. Well, nothing is what it should be and tonight is not going to be any different. I have no clue what the hell the professor talks about in class and most of the time we just go over the assignments we just turned in. (and people wonder why i don't go to class)
Today in my lab in which we extruded 28! HDPE parts from an injection molding machine. The point of the lab was to see what each parameter on the IMM did to the final part. Well, we started out the lab learning what each parameter did to the final part. (By the way there were only 3 parameters; a maximum of 8 tests are needed to test them)
A fellow classmate and I then discussed the pointless nature of what we were doing. Then it was brought up that what we really wanted to learn about from the professor, we couldn't because we were in class!
This has lead me to examine why the hell I'm even an engineer at all. Although my class attendance(percentage wise) has gone up every semester for the last 6 semesters in a row, I'm still around a dismal 30% attendance rate. Does this mean I don't care about what I'm learning? Does this mean I'm just a lazy bastard that everyone hates because I'm still in school and I don't go to class? I believe, the second may be true, but that is because only half the story is being acknowledged. I am attending a research-based University. All of my professors are here to do research. All of my TAs are here to do research. Am I here to do research? HELL NO. Do they care that I don't have an interest in their research? NO. Do they teach for the purpose of passing on human knowledge? Well, if you're doing their research, then yes; otherwise, no. Everything I have learned at this University, classwise, has been from a book. Do I need to attend class? yes. Why? to turn in assignments. To learn? no.
P.S. I am doing this so I can stay awake for the upcoming fluids test.
